Lucinda O'Sullivan-Sunday Independent
There weren't any concessions to recession on the menu, but the food was good. Starters were €8.50-€15.95. I had a seafood antipasti (€11.95) presented on a white plate, holding one bowl filled with chopped chill squid, topped with a big crab claw and langoustines. Beside it were two dipping sauces, some gravadlax, and a brace of oysters. Kathy had a really good Caprese salad (€9.50) with decent mozzarella, home-dried plum tomatoes, basil and a sweet balsamic dressing.
Kathy followed up with delicious roast wild venison haunch (€26.95), pickled red cabbage, smoked potato puree and buttered kale. I had roast breast of guinea fowl with confit leg, caramelised endive, plum chutney and dauphinoise potatoes (€26.95). The flavours in all elements of both dishes were sublimely satisfying.
We finished off with tiramisu (€9.95) and an assiette of rhubarb (€8.50), both lovely. Our bill, with a bottle of an aromatic Spanish Remendo Bodegas Abanico 2007 (€28.95) and optional service, came to €140.10.
